GRANTHAM u3a
Grantham is a thriving market town that sits on the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire border and has a population of around 45,000.
It has good road links with easy access to the A1 as well as good rail links. Grantham is located on the East Coast Main Line between London and Edinburgh.
The first ever female UK Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, was born in Grantham and attended the Kesteven and Grantham Girls' School.
Isaac Newton was born in Woolsthorpe by Colsterworth, where the famous apple tree can be seen. The town is proud that he was educated at the King's School, Grantham.
The UK's first female police officer with full powers of arrest, Edith Smith, was appointed in Grantham in 1915.
